The Ocean Deserves Better, The IPCC Assessment is Clear
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Working Group III released its report on what it will take to mitigate the worst of climate change.
The Healthy Ocean Coalition knows that the IPCC's Working Group III Report only, once again, solidifies the real work in front of us.
That we must reimagine our world by making transformative change together. We must work concurrently to justly transition off the fossil fuels quickly choking our planet by looking on land and sea for responsibly sited renewable energy production, while protecting the ocean which has acted for decades as a huge climate champion through absorbing heat and greenhouse gasses. We need to swiftly protect more of the ocean through highly and fully protected places that can remain resilient to the worst of our baked-in climate change impacts and protect ecosystems from the worsening biodiversity crisis. We must do this while centering equity in the transition and protection of nature and communities already over-burdened by the impacts of climate change. The time is now. Tomorrow will be too late.
